Other than that new Amyl and the Sniffers album, there are some sick records this week out of Paris, Philly, Detroit, Cincinnati, and of course, Australia.

Prostitute: Attempted Martyr [self-released]

After making a name as one of the city’s best new live bands, Detroit’s Prostitute dropped this intense album into the world. Attempted Martyr is searing, ominous, heavy-fisted post-punk. There’s this section of “Senegal” where the guitars ascend with the buzz of a chainsaw. There’s all this patience and space, so when they hit hard, it feels massive. It’s recorded by Chris Koltay, and as you might expect, it sounds massive. This sounds like a band that’s already spent years becoming enormous, not a debut album. Bonus points for “Joumana Kayrouz,” the latest Detroit post-punk homage to a local billboard legend.
