Mopar Stars: Official Researchers of the NJ Devil [K/Perennial]

This Philly power pop supergroup features members of Poison Ruin, Zorn, and Sheer Mag, so you should walk into this record with the highest songwriting expectations. They won’t let you down; this is power pop 101. “Super Up Coupe” is buttery, “Tears Don’t Fall (From Government Eyes)” is revved up but still plenty sensitive. The harmonies are as gorgeous as their sticky sweet hooks, and there’s just enough grit to make their sound feel tangible instead of overly glossy. It’s a cloud of cigarette smoke being carried off by a nice breeze. Take this record for a walk while it’s still beautiful outside and remember what it’s like to feel something.
