Plus the latest from CLAMM, the second album from Miami’s Wetflix, the buzzing UK band Irked, a great new band out of Columbus, and much more.
It’s Friday, July 19, and this is Punk This Week. It’s see/saw’s rundown of the new punk and rock’n’roll records that are worth a listen. It’s an intense new batch to discuss today, with the chaotic Mexican Coke LP, Lasso’s excellent Parte, plus new ones from CLAMM, Rolex, Grimly Forming, Irked, Wetflix, and more. How are you gonna learn that Manic Splits are a sick new Columbus band if you don’t read on?

Mexican Coke: Mexican Coke [Convulse]
Oscar the Grouch on a chopper and the song title “White Pantera” offered enough of a way into the world of Mexican Coke’s new album, but the band sealed the deal with their absolutely unhinged chaos whorl. The Houston hardcore band’s approach is insane. Three guitars, meanwhile Carlos is up front growling like a big cat Animorphing into a hurricane. According to the lyric sheet, most of the songs are tough guy shit about getting into fights or whatever, so it’s easy to read Mexican Coke as an emboldening record for when you need to face down the world.
