Welcome to Punk This Week, see/saw’s weekly column exploring the latest and greatest punk and rock’n’roll records. This week there’s an exceptional debut album from Melbourne’s Annaliese Redlich and her project Lothario, a stellar introduction to Cincinnati’s young art punks Artificial Go, the fourth and final demo from Prison Affair, a standout 7” from Minneapolis’ Texture Freq, and so much more.

Do you want to read all the blurbs and learn about all the music? Punk This Week is available to paid subscribers (and those who barter their way across the paywall). Lothario: Hogtied [Under the Gun]

In the opening tracks of the Lothario album Hogtied, Annaliese Redlich is some combination of horny, depressed, and tough as fuck. The moodboard is black leather, chain punk, and one night stands. “Drunk Fuck” and “BBBF” are raunchy as it gets, and while there’s a mid-tempo gradual burn to a lot of these songs, “Panter” is fast and lopsided hardcore about fucked up family dynamics. It’s easy to hear Jay Reatard’s melodic tendencies and grim love stories in “Missing Person,” though nothing’s darker than “Suckhole,” a portrait of domestic violence. The album ends with a triumphant Gerry Rafferty cover, which fits perfectly with a perfectly defined aesthetic from Redlich.
