Welcome to Punk This Week, see/saw’s weekly column exploring the latest and greatest punk and rock’n’roll records. It’s a good crop this week, with offerings from Melbourne psych rockers Bananagun, Mexican garage punks Sgt. Papers, plus bands from France, Italy, Argentina, Austria, the UK, and Indonesia. And Omaha.

To enjoy this punk rock survey of the globe, throw me over a little cash. Punk This Week is available to paid subscribers (and those who barter their way across the paywall). Free subscribers still have access to interviews, podcasts, playlists, and other weekly posts. Please consider a subscription, free or paid, to help grow this reader-supported endeavor. It’s a weird week. Take care of yourself.

Bananagun: Why Is the Colour of the Sky? [Anti-Fade/Full Time Hobby]

Bananagun, the unbelievable ’60s psych and tropicália indebted band from Melbourne, has returned with their new album Why Is the Colour of the Sky?. A melodically beautiful and jam forward record that is in no way punk but is in many ways rock’n’roll, the new Bananagun is here for a hammock and iced tea kind of afternoon. Feel the literal or metaphorical sun on your face. “With the Night” is easy listening, ornately constructed and breezy. Elsewhere they bust out the flute solos. It’s vintage cocktail party energy, but the kind of retro-ass party where somebody breaks out drugs.
