playlist: the best punk songs of december 2025

Between travel, events, hangs, zine shipping, quiet scheming, and the process of digesting rich food, the end of 2025 wiped me out. The family decided to have La Marsa cater the Christmas gathering and I ate an irresponsible amount of mjadra. They threw in that whipped garlic stuff. I was toast.

Almost every moment for myself was spent listening to genuinely incredible punk records at the end of the year, which is wild. I’ve been gobbling up new punk records all year like Pac-Man for Christ’s sake. But then two fully stacked benefit compilations from the Dissidents (Poppy Seeds) and Billiam (So Fresh: Tote-ally Summer) hit. Am I supposed to ignore new stuff from Mujeres Podridas, Jacky Cougar, COFFER, Cartoon, and Twenty One Children? If I am presented water, do I not drink?

While everybody—including myself—was reflecting on the year in art, it was an active and uplifting month for punk records. I write a lot about the energy I get from new punk music and the impact it tends to have on my mental health. You know how Phil Jackson let Dennis Rodman party in Vegas and be in the NWO during a critical part of the Bulls’ season, and you got the sense that was for his own mental health and ability to focus? I think getting lost in punk records and going to punk shows is my Las Vegas and NWO.

I got a couple messages from people that really meant a lot to me. I’ve been told that the podcast and radio show and newsletter are helping people stay grounded in the present during a tumultuous time. That’s what good records do for me, so if the process of sharing good records is helping anybody else out there, that’s the dream.
