In the past month, my ambitions for what see/saw could be really took off. Some of it’s still simmering in the background, but the most notable thing is a new podcast called Punk This Week with Nina Corcoran. I launched it both because I think there’s space for a podcast version of the weekly see/saw punk column and so I can talk to my friend about music every week.
I’m tickled about it, honestly. Nina rules, and her perspective on punk is one that I endlessly respect. Part of what makes the podcast feel special is how we both arrive to it with different touchstones. I started see/saw to write about punk, but with just my voice, you’re only getting one hue in this vibrant technicolor world of crazy music.
It’s the same reason I was beyond excited about David Anthony’s thoroughly researched and thoughtful interview with Duane Denison from the Jesus Lizard. Gem Fair reported on this year’s Skull Fest from so deep within its ranks he was literally photographed holding a friend’s baby—the president of Skull Fest.
see/saw also launched its most ambitious feature to date: an oral history of Hank Wood and the Hammerheads’ Stay Home!!. The feedback on that piece was extremely encouraging. I also chatted with Billiam about self-esteem and the creative process. A lot of intense and positive conversations in August.
