best of 2025 playlist: 103 favorite punk songs

To close out the year, I pulled 103 songs from memory and put them in the below playlist. It’s not a ranked list, just some fantastic songs that deserve more ears than they ever got. If you want a ranked list with stellar writing and genuinely excellent artwork, go buy the newsprint broadsheet that I’m not publishing online.

I’ve been reflecting on the past year of writing, assigning, editing, publishing, newsletter life, working a new day job, doing the podcast, launching bonus podcasts, doing a weekly hourlong radio show, and presenting nine different punk shows in Minneapolis and Eau Claire. It’s been extremely gratifying that people have shown up for this art project. If you enjoy this playlist, consider subscribing to see/saw for free or for money.

On the long drive to see family, I was listening to some music considered by multiple critics to be 2025’s best. I understood why all of it had such massive crossover appeal, but there was this chill vibes smoothing effect over most of it. It made me appreciate even more that I’ve spent the past two years obsessing over music with sharp edges and stupid jokes, trauma laid bare and demolition derby recklessness. I love punk music. I love being the steward of a punk publication. I love sharing this stuff.
