sexfaces enlist all the d.c. punk baddies for their “s.c.u.m.” video
At the boxing gym, the Scum Gang collides with the Chad Gang in a war against the patriarchy.
SEXFACES released their exceptional new album Bad Vibes OST earlier this year on Slovenly. Today marks the premiere of their “S.C.U.M.” video. Directed by Jonathan Howard, animated by Krime Slugz Captain Krut, and edited by the band’s Sal Go, the visual features a rumble at the Downtown Boxing Gym. This is the first I’ve ever done a music video premiere. Maybe it’s the last time. SEXFACES talked me into it because that band rules. Watch it below!
S.C.U.M., of course, is an abbreviation for the Society of Cutting Up Men. The YouTube description quotes from Valerie Solanas’ 1967 SCUM Manifesto.
“With beer, cokes, and tequila generously provided by Fkin Richard, the SCUM gang formed telepathically from local DC punks, artists, academics, and degenerates for one singular purpose: to beat the shit out of all Agents of the Patriarchy,” the band’s statement reads. “Fortunately for the two incomplete-chromosone bearing members of Sexfaces, Jacky and Neil avoided certain doom by actually showing up for band practice.”
The Scum Gang features Hana Racecar & Sal Go (SEXFACES), Hanna M (Darker Than), Vero (Teen Cobra), Guinevere Tully (Rosslyn Station), Sarah Barnfart (Sad Roach), Emily Rainey (ex-Pickaxe), Tanglewood Sue, and Dr. Theodora Danylevich.
Their rivals in the Chad Gang include Christopher (Venray), Scott Archer (Darker Than), Scotty Mo (Hawkwatcher), Mike L (ADD Ramone), and Stephen Donoway (Rhizome). The role of Wiggles the Ref is helmed by Ben Brown. Aaron Herencia makes a guest appearance.
When asked by crew/BTS photographer Derek Flynn how many scenes were left, Howard responded, “I have long since abandoned the storyboard.”
