punk this week: the number ones, beer, the ex + 19 more
Before the big see/saw parties, let’s listen to some extremely good new punk and rock'n'roll records.

Hey it’s Punk This Week, the Friday column from see/saw running down and recommending the week’s best punk records. The Number Ones returned out of nowhere, the Ex are back, Beer dropped another stellar EP, Billiam’s live band got an exceptional document, and the world is introduced to Gerber and the Babies. Definitely try that new Fugue State too, damn.
If you want a weekly email in your inbox that offers you a detailed, curated selection of must-listen new punk and rock'n'roll records, throw over $4/month or $40/year for a paid see/saw subscription. (There’s a two-week free trial.) You also get the see/saw radio archive and, soon, bonus podcasts. Free subscribers get writing every week, too, but the whole thing doesn’t cost that much! Please subscribe, free or paid, to support this independent music journalism operation.
Also, hey: see/saw just turned 1! If you’re in or near Minneapolis, I hope to see you at Cloudland tonight (4/4): Feeling Figures, Bermuda Squares, Answering Machines, Yuasa-Exide, and DJ Dr. Wells (Uranium Club) are booked. The big YEAR 1 party is tomorrow (4/5) at Eagles No. 34: Retail Simps, Judy and the Jerks, Neo Neos, Artificial Go, 208, Abi Ooze, and Panel are playing.
The Number Ones: Sorry [Static Shock]
“Sorry” is the latest power pop masterpiece from the Number Ones, so I’m not going to wait for the B-side to write about it. The Number Ones from Dublin have been gone for just long enough that a new record was an absolute surprise. A perfect hook, shaggy vocals, and raw production in just two minutes. This is a single that feels like it could’ve been idling in a jukebox unnoticed for decades. How do they do it?
