punk this week: sex scenes, split system, les lullies + 17 more
A big pile of great punk records from across the globe + a surprise five-hour mix from punk YouTube icon Jimmy.

Ahoy-hoy, it’s Punk This Week—see/saw’s weekly roundup of new punk and rock'n'roll records worth your time, dime, and slime. The new one from Milwaukee’s Sex Scenes leads a particularly global installment. This column discusses new records from Germany, the Netherlands, France, Indonesia, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, Murfreesboro, Oakland, New York City, and beyond. There’s also a surprise five-hour mix from punk YouTube icon Jimmy.
Here’s the deal with see/saw: Most of the stuff you get on this website is free. Some things, including this column, cost $4/month or $40/year to access. I try to keep the cost low, and honestly, I throw the majority of the money back to the punk community—to artists, writers, labels, etc. Since this thing is fully independent and has no backing investors or anything, subscribing to see/saw—free or paid—is a massive help.
Sex Scenes: Everything Makes Me Sick [Big Neck]
On their new album Everything Makes Me Sick, Milwaukee’s thrashcore unit Sex Scenes are predictably fed up. They say as much on “Fed Up.” On “Impressive,” they shout “don’t talk to me” followed quickly by “is it something I said?” The lyrics are all about pushing people away, whether it’s intentional or not. The music itself is engineered for intentional shoving. The album is this towering achievement of headbanging thrash hooks, a sound that’s giant and full of momentum. It’s dour thrash that makes you want to get up off your ass. You’re up, you’re moving, and you’re pondering the pointlessness of capitalism in life’s greater transient picture.
